I was in the Hampstead Cafe Nero and they had just created two shelves and planted some books on the shelves. On the end of the row of books was a volume of James Joyce, The Essential JJ. There was a folded piece of paper, small, that was marking a page. The left page had a poem called Nightpiece. I asked the Baristar whether the books were there for exchange. He said no but because I was a regular customer I was welcome to take it away for a few days and then return it. I took it to see what it would feel like to have it in my bag for a few days.
